HubSpot vs beehiiv (2026): Which Is Better for Newsletters?
HubSpot vs beehiiv for newsletters in 2026: free email limits, Starter vs Lite/Pro pricing, CRM vs publication tools—cited to official pages.
HubSpot and beehiiv both send marketing email, but they are built for different jobs. HubSpot is a CRM and marketing platform (Marketing Hub plus free CRM tools) aimed at businesses that want leads, pipelines, and multi-channel campaigns in one stack. beehiiv is a newsletter publication platform—a hosted website, recommendation network, paid subscriptions, and ad monetization—priced by subscriber count.
For a newsletter-first creator choosing between them, the free-plan gap is usually the first filter: beehiiv Free covers up to 2,500 subscribers with unlimited sends, while HubSpot Free email allows 2,000 sends per calendar month with HubSpot branding. Paid HubSpot then jumps from a cheap Starter seat promo into Professional at $800/month (billed annually)—a different budget class than beehiiv Lite from $49/month (yearly billing at 1,000 subscribers) or Pro from $95/month.
This comparison is based on each vendor’s official Marketing Hub / beehiiv pricing pages, plan comparison tables, and FAQs, checked on October 3, 2026. Prices are in USD and change often, so confirm on HubSpot’s Marketing Hub pricing and beehiiv’s pricing page before you commit.
How we researched this: We haven’t tested HubSpot or beehiiv hands-on for this article. Everything below comes from each vendor’s official documentation and public pricing pages. The screenshots are captures of those public pricing pages, not of our own accounts.
About our links: HubSpot and beehiiv links on this page are affiliate-style

Quick picks
- Choose beehiiv if a newsletter publication is the main job—especially if you want a free plan with unlimited sends, a publication website, recommendation network growth, and 0% platform take on paid subscriptions (Stripe still applies).
- Choose HubSpot if you need a CRM-first marketing stack—forms, live chat, ads, and marketing contacts tied to a sales pipeline—more than a newsletter host. Free and Starter can work for light email; treat Professional as a team marketing buy, not a newsletter upgrade.

Free plans: HubSpot Free vs beehiiv Free
This is where most newsletter writers feel the difference first.
beehiiv Free is $0 forever for up to 2,500 subscribers. The plan card lists unlimited email sends, email templates, landing pages, the recommendation network, and API/integrations. beehiiv’s FAQ states there is no limit on how many emails you can send—every plan includes unlimited sends. The feature table lists 1 team seat and 1 publication on Free. What’s missing on Free (per plan cards / table): paid subscriptions, ad monetization, automations, A/B testing, and removing beehiiv branding (branding removal starts on Pro).
HubSpot Free is $0/month for up to 2 users, no credit card required, and includes free Marketing (and other) tools on the Marketing Hub pricing page. For email specifically, the comparison table lists 2,000 email sends per calendar month, with HubSpot branding, and email automation of 1 automated action. That is enough for occasional campaigns or a very light nurture trigger—not a high-frequency newsletter to thousands of people.
Bottom line: if your primary channel is a growing newsletter list, beehiiv Free lasts longer on sends (unlimited vs 2,000/month) even though its subscriber cap (2,500) is lower than some creator tools. If your primary need is a free CRM plus light branded HubSpot email while you test the platform, HubSpot Free is the documented fit—just plan around the 2,000-send/month ceiling. Paid pricing for newsletters
beehiiv Lite and Pro
beehiiv prices Lite and Pro by subscriber count. Plan names as of October 2026 are Free / Lite / Pro / Enterprise (older Launch / Scale / Max names are outdated). On October 3, 2026, at 1,000 subscribers:
| Billing | beehiiv Lite | beehiiv Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $59/mo | $109/mo |
| Yearly (shown as $/mo) | $49/mo | $95/mo |
beehiiv’s FAQ says yearly billing saves up to 20% vs month to month. Lite and Pro include a free trial with no credit card required to get started. Lite unlocks paid subscriptions (0% take rate), ad monetization, automations, A/B testing, audience polls, and beehiiv MCP. Pro adds remove beehiiv branding, advanced analytics, webhooks, dynamic content, webinars/coaching tools, and 24/7 priority support.
Subscriber caps on the feature table: Lite up to 100,000, Pro up to 250,000, Enterprise custom. Team seats: Lite 2, Pro 10.
At higher tiers (from our October 1 slider capture on the same renamed plans, still matching today’s 1k cards): at 5,000 subscribers, Lite $109/mo monthly / $95/mo yearly; Pro $199/mo monthly / $169/mo yearly. Confirm the slider on beehiiv.com/pricing for your list size.
HubSpot Starter, Professional, and Enterprise
Marketing Hub Starter is the first paid step. On October 3, 2026, HubSpot showed a limited-time “Save up to 65% on Starter” banner for new customers only:
- Promo $7/month per seat when you Pay Annually, or $10/month per seat when you Pay Monthly
- Regular price listed as $20/month per seat
- 1,000 marketing contacts included; 500 HubSpot Credits
- Remove HubSpot branding from email marketing and live chat
- Simple marketing automation (comparison table: up to 10 automated actions)
- Monthly email sends at 5× your marketing contact tier (FAQ)—at the included 1,000 contacts, that is 5,000 sends/month
- Onboarding is not required on Starter (Inbound Consulting optional for an extra fee, per FAQ)
Starter is priced per seat. Multiply if more than one person needs a seat.
Professional is a different budget:
- $800/month billed annually, or $890/month paid monthly
- Includes 3 Core Seats (extra seats from $45/mo annual / $50/mo monthly)
- 2,000 marketing contacts included; sends at 10× the contact tier (FAQ)
- Required one-time Professional Onboarding for $3,000 (called out on the plan card)
Enterprise starts at $3,600/month, includes 5 Core Seats and 10,000 marketing contacts, sends at 20× the contact tier (FAQ), and a required one-time Enterprise Onboarding fee of $7,000.

Rough cost contrast (platform fee only)
| Scenario | beehiiv path (public prices) | HubSpot path (public prices) |
|---|---|---|
| Solo newsletter under 2.5k, manual sends | beehiiv Free $0, unlimited sends | HubSpot Free $0, but 2,000 sends/mo cap |
| Need welcome sequences / automations | beehiiv Lite ~$59/mo at 1k (monthly) | Starter promo $7–$10/mo/seat (up to 10 actions) or jump to Professional |
| Charge readers for the newsletter | Lite+ with 0% beehiiv take (+ Stripe) | Not a documented paid-publication product on Marketing Hub pricing |
| Full marketing team omnichannel + CRM | beehiiv Pro helps publications; not a CRM suite | Professional $800/mo annual + $3,000 onboarding |
For many newsletter writers, beehiiv’s documented ladder stays lower for longer once you need unlimited sends and a publication site. HubSpot’s Starter promo can be cheap for light branded email plus CRM—but the leap to Professional is large.
Features that matter for newsletters
Website, growth, and publication tools
beehiiv positions itself as a publication stack: website builder, landing pages, recommendation network (on Free), and (on paid plans) ad network, referral tools, and more. Every product line (website, podcast, community, digital products) is called out as available across plans, with limits and advanced features changing as you move up—not which products you can use (FAQ).
HubSpot includes forms, live chat, and related free/paid marketing tools as part of the broader free-tools and Marketing Hub packaging. Starter specifically calls out removing HubSpot branding from email and live chat. HubSpot is stronger when those forms should create CRM contacts for sales follow-up; beehiiv is stronger when the page’s job is growing and hosting a newsletter publication.
Monetization and paid subscriptions
beehiiv documents paid subscriptions on Lite and above with a 0% platform take rate. The FAQ: beehiiv takes 0% of paid subscription and digital product revenue; you keep what you earn minus Stripe’s standard processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. Ad monetization is listed on Lite+ (plan cards show an average ad revenue figure that scales with list size).
HubSpot Marketing Hub pricing does not present a Substack-style paid newsletter product. Monetization on HubSpot is typically “market products/services through CRM + campaigns,” not “charge readers for the newsletter.” If your revenue is reader subscriptions, beehiiv documents that path; if your revenue is selling something else and email is the nurture channel, HubSpot’s model matches better.
For a creator toolkit with commerce on every plan (including Free) and a 3.5% + 30¢ fee that includes card processing, also compare Kit.
Automations and CRM
- beehiiv: automations are listed starting on Lite (not on Free). Pro adds more advanced automation/content tools (e.g. dynamic content, webhooks) on the plan cards.
- HubSpot: Free allows 1 automated action. Starter raises that to up to 10 automated actions. Professional and Enterprise list unlimited actions plus broader omni-channel automation on the comparison table. HubSpot’s bigger advantage is the Smart CRM surrounding those emails—marketing contacts, deals, and (on higher hubs) sales/service workflows—not newsletter-style publication tools alone.
If your “newsletter business” is really a solo publication, beehiiv’s Lite unlock for paid subs + automations is usually the simpler documented path. If you already live in a CRM and need marketing email tied to sales stages, HubSpot is built for that.
When beehiiv wins
Based on the documented plans and prices checked October 3, 2026:
- You want newsletter-first growth with unlimited sends on a free plan (up to 2,500 subscribers)
- You want a publication website and recommendation-network style growth
- You plan to charge readers and prefer 0% platform take (Stripe still applies)
- You’re fine without a full sales CRM
- Your paid budget for a publication is closer to beehiiv Lite/Pro (~$49–$109/mo at 1k) than HubSpot Professional
When HubSpot wins
Be honest: HubSpot is the better documented fit in several situations.
- You need a CRM (contacts, deals, pipelines) and marketing email is one channel among forms, chat, and ads
- Multiple teammates need seats and you want HubSpot’s free tools across marketing/sales/service as a starting platform
- You’re evaluating Starter for branded email + simple automation while staying inside HubSpot
- You expect to grow into a marketing team product (Professional+) and can budget for seats, contact tiers, and onboarding
- Your list is small enough that HubSpot Free’s 2,000 sends/month is enough while you test
- Your business sells products/services (not a paid newsletter), and email is the nurture channel
Which should you pick?
| Your situation | Better fit (based on documented features and pricing) |
|---|---|
| Starting a newsletter from zero; want free unlimited sends | beehiiv Free (up to 2,500 subscribers) — or Kit Free if you need up to 10,000 |
| Need CRM + light marketing email | HubSpot Free or Starter |
| Need automations + paid newsletter on a creator budget | beehiiv Lite |
| Full demand-gen / omni-channel marketing team | HubSpot Professional (budget for onboarding) |
| Want 0% platform take on paid subs | beehiiv Lite+ |
| Want creator email without a pub site | Compare Kit (HubSpot vs Kit, Kit vs beehiiv) |

What we’ll add after hands-on testing
Once we’ve set up accounts on both platforms, we can update this comparison with:
- Screenshots of both editors, automation builders, and CRM/publication views from those accounts
- How long a basic welcome email takes to set up on each
- Notes on importing a real list into beehiiv vs creating marketing contacts in HubSpot
- How beehiiv’s website builder and HubSpot’s free tools feel day to day
Until then, treat this as a pricing-and-feature map from official sources—not a performance review.
