HubSpot Free Email Marketing (2026): What You Get and When to Upgrade
HubSpot free email marketing in 2026: 2,000 sends/month, branding limits, Starter promo pricing, and when the jump to Professional makes sense vs Kit or beehiiv.
HubSpot’s free tools include email marketing at $0/month, for up to 2 users, with no credit card required. The catch for newsletter writers is the send cap and branding: free email allows 2,000 sends per calendar month, with HubSpot branding, and automation is limited to 1 automated action. Paid Marketing Hub plans raise those limits, but the next step after Starter — Professional at $800/month billed annually — is a steep jump for someone who mainly wants a newsletter.
This guide covers what HubSpot’s free email marketing includes, what Starter and higher plans add, and when HubSpot makes sense compared with newsletter-first tools like Kit and beehiiv. Prices are in USD from HubSpot’s Marketing Hub pricing page as it appeared on October 7, 2026 (first published September 29, 2026; HubSpot’s prices and promo were unchanged on re-check). HubSpot updates pricing and promos from time to time, so confirm on that page before you buy.
How we researched this: This guide is based on HubSpot’s official Marketing Hub pricing page, plan comparison table, and FAQ. We haven’t tested HubSpot’s free or paid plans hands-on. The screenshot is a capture of HubSpot’s public pricing page, not of an account.

What HubSpot free email marketing includes
According to HubSpot’s Marketing Hub pricing page and feature comparison:
- $0/month, free for up to 2 users, no credit card required
- Email marketing with 2,000 email sends per calendar month, with HubSpot branding
- Email automation: 1 automated action (enough for a very simple trigger, not a full welcome series)
- Access to HubSpot’s broader free toolset on the same pricing page (free Marketing, Sales, Service, Content, Data, and Revenue tools are listed on the Free plan card)
What Free doesn’t give you for email:
- No removal of HubSpot branding on emails (that starts on Starter)
- No high send volume — 2,000 sends/month is a hard free-tier ceiling on the comparison table
- No multi-step automations beyond that single automated action
- No paid-newsletter / subscription billing feature called out on the Marketing Hub pricing page (HubSpot is a CRM and marketing platform, not a Substack-style paid publication tool)
When Free is enough: you’re a small business testing HubSpot’s CRM and forms, you send occasional marketing emails (not a high-frequency newsletter), and you can live with HubSpot branding and the 2,000-send/month cap.
What Starter adds (and the promo price)
Marketing Hub Starter is the first paid step. On October 7, 2026, HubSpot showed a limited-time “special Starter pricing” banner: “Save up to 65% on Starter… New customers only. Select offers available for a limited time.” The card showed:
- $7/month per seat when you Pay Annually, or $10/month per seat when you Pay Monthly
- Regular price listed as $20/month per seat
- 1,000 marketing contacts included
- 500 HubSpot Credits
- Remove HubSpot branding from email marketing and live chat
- Simple marketing automation (comparison table: up to 10 automated actions)
- Monthly email sends of 5× your marketing contact tier (FAQ: Starter = 5× contacts/month). At the included 1,000 contacts, that is 5,000 sends/month
- No required onboarding (Inbound Consulting is optional for an additional fee, per the FAQ)
Starter is priced per seat, not as a flat team fee. If you need more than one person sending marketing email, multiply the per-seat price.

Professional and Enterprise: the big jump
Professional is where HubSpot becomes a full marketing team product:
- $800/month billed annually, or $890/month paid monthly
- Includes 3 Core Seats (extra seats from $45/mo annual / $50/mo monthly)
- 2,000 marketing contacts included; sends at 10× the contact tier (FAQ)
- Required one-time Professional Onboarding for $3,000 (called out on the plan card; FAQ says Professional and Enterprise are automatically charged for onboarding)
Enterprise starts at $3,600/month, includes 5 Core Seats and 10,000 marketing contacts, with sends at 20× the contact tier (FAQ), and a required one-time Enterprise Onboarding fee of $7,000.
Two FAQ rules matter if you grow:
- Marketing vs non-marketing contacts. You can store non-marketing contacts in the CRM for free (up to 15 million overall contacts), but you can’t target them with marketing emails or ads.
- You can’t downgrade your contact tier until your contract renews once you’ve selected a tier.
For a solo newsletter writer, Professional’s $800/month + $3,000 onboarding is usually far more than Kit Creator or beehiiv Lite at the same list size. Treat Professional as a business CRM/marketing buy, not a newsletter upgrade path.

When Starter makes sense vs Kit or beehiiv
HubSpot, Kit, and beehiiv solve overlapping problems differently. Quick comparison from each vendor’s official pricing (all three re-checked October 7, 2026; beehiiv’s plans are now Free, Lite, Pro, and Enterprise):
| Need | Better fit |
|---|---|
| Free list growth with a high subscriber ceiling | Kit Free (up to 10,000 subscribers, no sending limits stated) or beehiiv Free (up to 2,500) — both beat HubSpot Free’s 2,000 sends/month for a growing newsletter |
| Paid newsletter / subscriptions with low platform take | Kit or beehiiv (commerce/subscription features on their pricing pages); HubSpot Marketing Hub pricing doesn’t position itself as a paid-publication host |
| CRM + forms + sales pipeline + marketing email in one place | HubSpot |
| Remove branding and a few automations on a small business budget | HubSpot Starter (promo $7–$10/seat) if you already want HubSpot; otherwise Kit Creator / beehiiv Lite are the newsletter-native paid plans |
| Omni-channel campaigns, attribution, team seats | HubSpot Professional+ — and budget for onboarding |
Choose HubSpot Free or Starter if your “newsletter” is really lead-gen email for a business that will use HubSpot’s CRM. Choose Kit or beehiiv if the newsletter is the product (audience growth, recommendations, paid subs). See our beginner platform comparison and Kit pricing guide for those alternatives.
Our recommendation
Based on HubSpot’s documented Marketing Hub pricing:
- Start free if you want to try HubSpot’s CRM and send light marketing email under 2,000 sends/month and can accept HubSpot branding.
- Upgrade to Starter when you need to remove branding, send more than 2,000 emails/month, or run more than one automated action — and only while the promo pricing still applies if you’re a new customer (confirm the banner on HubSpot’s page; it’s limited-time).
- Don’t jump to Professional for a newsletter alone. At $800/month plus $3,000 onboarding, it’s built for marketing teams. Newsletter writers are usually better served by Kit or beehiiv until HubSpot’s CRM is a real requirement.
- Skip HubSpot for paid newsletters if your main goal is charging readers; look at platforms that list subscription billing on their pricing pages.

How many emails can I send on HubSpot Free?
2,000 email sends per calendar month, with HubSpot branding, according to the Marketing Hub feature comparison.
How much is HubSpot Marketing Hub Starter?
As of October 7, 2026, HubSpot showed promotional Starter pricing of $7/month per seat (annual) or $10/month per seat (monthly) for new customers for a limited time, against a regular $20/month per seat. Starter includes 1,000 marketing contacts and removes HubSpot branding from email.
Does Marketing Hub Professional require onboarding?
Yes. The Professional plan card states a required one-time Professional Onboarding fee of $3,000. HubSpot’s FAQ says Professional and Enterprise are automatically charged for onboarding; Starter does not require it.
Is HubSpot good for a solo newsletter?
Usually only if you also need a CRM. For a newsletter-first workflow (high free subscriber caps, paid subscriptions, creator recommendation networks), Kit and beehiiv are closer fits on their published pricing pages. HubSpot Free’s 2,000-send/month cap and Professional’s price make HubSpot a business platform first.
Can I downgrade my HubSpot marketing contact tier?
HubSpot’s FAQ says that once you select a contact tier, you cannot downgrade until your contract renews. You can change individual contacts between marketing and non-marketing status (updated monthly).
